Description

The Macchi MC.200 was designed by the famous engineer Mario Castoldi and represents a significant production development in Italian combat aircraft.
Compared to the Fiat CR.32 and Fiat CR.42 biplanes, which were the main models of Italian fighter squadrons at the beginning of the Second World War, the Macchi MC.200, along with its contemporary Fiat G50, were distinguished by their monoplane configuration and solid metal construction.
The 14-cylinder Fiat A.74 RC 38 double radial engine was able to produce 840 hp and allowed the Macchi Mc 200 to reach speeds of 500 km/h.
Compared to the Allied fighters, it was less powerful and yet less powerful.
Two 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns mounted above the distinctive domed engine nacelle were the only available onboard armament.
In the latest versions, two additional 7.7 mm Breda SAFAT machine guns were installed in the wings.
It was used by the Regia Aeronautica on the main fronts of World War II: Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Russia.
