The M48 Patton is a first generation American main battle tank introduced in February 1952 and armed with a 90mm cannon.It was the main battle tank of the US Army and US Marine Corps in the Vietnam War.
Almost 12,000 M48s were built from 1952 to 1961.
The vehicles were continuously increased in combat value during their service life.
The last major combat upgrade of the M48 in the US Armed Forces was the M48A5 version.
This was built on the existing M48A3 version,
At the time, these were still being used by units of the National Guard.
The vehicles received the M68 105mm gun and the M16 fire control system.
